The weekend timing of communications, as mentioned by Tallman, speaks to the theme of remoteness, detachment, and disregard (even contempt at times) from government officials.

Thank you, Emma Wood House, for all of your courageous investigating and fighting through all of this craziness. I’m a big fan!!

I guess it’s good this superintendent made a public effort to apologize; however, he does not really admit that what he did was wrong—that masking and excluding healthy kids was wrong and harmful. Maybe I am missing something, but it seems that he just says that he is sorry he had to do what he had to do and “it was difficult” as he continues to give the blanket excuse that everyone has been giving all along: “I was just following orders.” While I applaud his courage in his public apology, I feel like it fell short by not admitting that their “just following orders” have actually harmed our children. I guess I should be grateful for each little step in the right direction though.

Remind me of what the repercussions were for an IL school district's administration to have an optional mask policy in August '21? Funding? Their job? Jail?

While my daughter's district (part of suite) was still "strongly encouraging" masks late February, no school faculty had masks by May's promotion ceremony. Only a handful of students wore masks during the ceremony. One (a close friend of my daughter's) has tremendous anxiety without a mask.

The price of that lasting effect? Who is harnessed with the responsibility of that burden?

I met with the principle of a small private Catholic academy in the Chicago suburbs. She didn’t apologize for masking because she didn’t have to.

They skirted the rules throughout.

But still, 2 out of thousands isn’t a great percentage. Still work to be done in the prairie state.

Oh boy the Karen’s are not going to like that. But BRAVO!! Now if only other superintendents would have the balls to follow suit. With experiences I had over the course of three consecutive academic years concerning both of my kids I am confident in saying parents will never receive that type of letter. The authorities in my district defended the senior student who bullied and assaulted my son, more concerned with the BULLY’s “rights” than my son and the trauma he suffered and HIS rights. Our schools are a HOT MESS. The only blessing of Covid is we all now KNOW.
