The information was always out there. I’m not a nurse, or doctor, or any kind of medical person, yet I was able to see the truth about what was going on very quickly. I was able to protect myself, my family, and my immediate circle of friends by listening the many doctors who urged caution and then provided actual scientific studies. Doctors like Malone, McCullough, Zelenko, FLCCC, AAPS, etc, etc, etc, offered prevention and treatment options. The fact that many politicians, physicians, and media chose to censor and demonize us without ever bothering to do the research is appalling. I’m not ready to chalk it up to “we didn’t know”….they CHOSE not to know, for whatever reason.
Our failure is a failure or classism, as it almost always is these days. That lockdowns accelerated our class divide only further illustrates why the district 1’ers don’t actually believe they have anyone to apologize for. That amnesty is good enough. Emily likely has not on single person in her inner circle, and likely not even in her extended circle, actually impacted by lockdowns. No one who lost a job or a livelihood. No one who’s kids were home alone for days on end while they were locked out of schools but parents were required to work work “essential” jobs. No one beaten by adults overstressed by their forced isolation. District 1’ers don’t face the realities so many others do, and so to them this, like every crisis, is an existential one. District 1 is built on selfishness masquerading as “empathy from a distance,” but it never actually comes home. Her entire circle is her - and she’s doing just fine, so really, what’s the big deal…?
Please, please, can we make "Osterism" the name for a sort of smug cluelessness that changes with whatever wind is blowing?
Alternatively, it could be called "Leana Wenism", but that would imply a more craven bureaucratic narcissism, that is closer to "Dingism" and loves to be on tv.
I'm pretty disgusted.
If NY, Michigan, and IL get new governors, or at the very least, emergency powers go away with extreme prejudice. And, there is a guarantee that children will never be required to get any COVID vax or the next 15 boosters each year. (children from pre-K-college). That would be a start.
Those who promoted shots, masks, distancing, the fact that the shots kept every one "safe" and worse. The horrible things said about unvaccinated people. Dividing friends and family. Should be held accountable. Those that kept saying the lies when they knew they were not speaking truth should be held accountable. The others should apologize and ask for forgiveness from those they demonized for making their own decisions regarding their own health.
Probably shouldn't hold our breath , unfortunately.
Not to mention that her "social milieu" is still inflicting harms for nonsensical and unscientific reasons (if any reasoning at all is involved) in the form of mandated bivalent boosters for college students. So far her institution, Brown University, has not joined with Harvard, Yale and Tufts in requiring these -- in the interest of earning her "amnesty" will she speak up against any further vaccine mandates?

If you make a "hard call" based on "imperfect knowledge" in a lethal force engagement, you might find yourself in jail. The law requires a person who kills another and claims self-defense to have all of his legal ducks in a row, or, sorry, the use of lethal force was unlawful. Your intent to preserve your own life isn't considered. Punishment will be inflicted. The state doesn't care about your "feels." You have to KNOW before the state allows you to get away with a killing.
Why should Oster, or anyone else who damaged and killed in the name of "public health", be let off the hook?
It's interesting how this piece of Oster's has summoned nearly every Substacker to blast it to hell. Gato, Igor, Eugy, Senger, Chris Bray... hell even AJ Kay reappeared after a yearlong absence on Substack to pen her second paper!
Personally I think today Vinay Prasad took the prize for best response for his 18 structural solutions (still a few above I haven't gone through though)
Emily is among a handful of substackers I pay the subscription fee despite often disagreeing with to make sure I don't get caught in an echo chamber (YLE another one), with the small hope that she might respond to polite comments asking for clarification or reconsideration from time to time (surprise, they never respond to anything other than the fawning praise of sycophants).
Probably why she posted "What's the deal with Vasectomies" to her substack today instead of crossposting her Atlantic article to get feedback from paying subscribers.
Makes sense that the Atlantic would publish the piece, since they, as one of the main perpetrators of the narrative, would love to be let off the hook. The only Brown, where my son just graduated from (un-coerced, luckily) professor I listen to is the tenacious Andrew Bostom.
There's a better analogy I suppose, but this sort of talk from Oster reminds me of the long misadventure in Afghanistan. There, we screwed up year after year, in many of the same ways that the covid response was screwed up. After grotesque disaster concluded the occupation, no one in government seemed to want to own up to the mistakes that had been made.

A request for “amnesty” is basically a tacit offer of conditional surrender. That is of course a sign of knowing and tacitly admitting that one is on the wrong side of history.
But we know if THEIR side had somehow won instead, they would be giving us NO AMNESTY and NO QUARTER, and demanding unconditional surrender from us.
